US Armed Forces Executes Lethal Attack in Pacific, Leading to 4 Deaths
As stated by a senior defense spokesperson, the American military executed a fatal strike on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.
“A US joint task force conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a known narco-trafficking route and was involved in illicit drug transport. All four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no American forces were harmed.”
Context and Recent Actions
The statement comes a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on social media, the US president accused Venezuela of using oil profits to fund narcotics smuggling and other crimes, pledging to increase the military buildup.
Only on the previous day, US defense officials said it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 people, most off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Justifies Actions Amidst Scrutiny
The administration has faced growing pressure to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. However, officials have declined to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a success, saying it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the limits of legal military action.
While the administration has said the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, remarks from a senior aide seemed to confirm a broader geopolitical objective. In a recent interview, the chief of staff said the president “aims to keep on blowing boats up until Venezuela's president surrenders or concedes.”
This suggests the military campaign may be part of a push to remove Venezuela's current leadership.
