The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for United
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
