US air traffic controllers are more and more seeking second jobs and reporting ill, as they continue to work unpaid during the government shutdown, the transport chief has stated.

"The controllers are becoming strained," the official informed Fox News on Sunday, as some flights were halted on the Californian coast due to staffing shortages.

Following the federal closure on October 1st, flight controllers, who are deemed critical staff, were instructed to keep doing their jobs without pay.

But a number have been absent, causing airports to stop or slow their plane traffic, which has exacerbated delays caused by climate and additional factors.

More than 3,000 American flights were postponed on the weekend, and Duffy stated he anticipates the circumstances to deteriorate further.

"I am seeing the pressure," Duffy remarked in an discussion on Sunday Morning Futures, noting that he had met with multiple professionals to hear their worries directly.

"They're taking side jobs, they're out there searching, 'Should I drive Uber, am I able to secure an alternative of income to cover expenses?'" he continued.

The secretary further mentioned that on Saturday twenty-two notifications at airfields indicated travel would be held up due to a shortage of employees - one of the highest after the shutdown began.

The American federal closure entered its twenty-sixth day on Sunday, making it the second most extended shutdown in the past.

He has consistently cautioned that aviation regulators would slow down the quantity of aircraft in the air if there is a deficit of safety personnel.

In his conversation, he declined to respond straightforwardly when asked if it was secure to travel by air in the United States, and instead made a direct appeal to controllers.

"I need my controllers concentrating on the flight paths, not on the finances at home," Duffy said.

On that day, certain flights were stopped at Los Angeles International Airport due to employee deficits, causing interruption at the fifth-busiest terminal in the country and among the most crowded in the world, as well as other flights stretching upward to the metropolis of Oakland.

The FAA notice was issued at 8:45 AM local time on the weekend. Numerous trips were back on schedule by midday.

Travel at Newark Airport, however, were postponed an average of over an hour due to staffing shortages, and the FAA said DFW, the second most active airfield in the country, could encounter difficulties from reduced staff in the afternoon.

The FAA warned passengers in California to consult carriers about revised departure times.

The situation precedes Game 3 of the championship, which is scheduled in LA on Monday night, and about one month prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, among the peak times to fly in the US.

Strain on American aviation helped end a government shutdown in 2019. Back then, the halt had entered its fifth week and disrupted flight services, including aviator instruction.

It led a number of air traffic controllers to stay home on the same day on 25 January 2019, temporarily stopping movement at LaGuardia Airport in New York.

On that date, Donald Trump, who at the time was in his initial presidency as president, consented to approve a temporary funding measure, effectively ending the federal closure after 35 days.
