Automobiles in German Town Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers mentioned they were notified by a individual who found a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.

Police then located numerous other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police say early analysis suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.

"There is still no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

City officials said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.

A high-ranking representative stated the attack made him speechless and needed to be addressed promptly.

"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
